He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be sadly missed by his family. He graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1964 and then joined the U.S. Marine Corp at the age of 18, where he served eight years in the Marine Corp Reserves.

Mrs. Helen Toinette (Tono) Malins, who passed away after a long illness Feb. 5. She was an Educator who taught English and Latin. Her husband, Chester W. Dr. Crighton “Buddy” Newsom ’68, of Hebron, Ky., passed away Sept. 19 of cancer at his home. Buddy was a psychologist with the state of Ohio, working as chief psychologist at the Southwest Ohio Development Center for 15 years. He was also a member of the Greater Cincinnati Autism Society, was an accomplished scholar, and a gentle, caring clinician. A national leader in the field of autism, he did his Ph.D. work under the direction of Dr. Ivar Lovaas, the first person to show that autistic children can be taught to modify their behavior. Buddy was a lecturer and consultant to the Autism Society. Buddy was born in Galveston, Tex., on Oct. 27, 1945, to Don and Scotty Newsom. He was the second of their two sons and a football star at W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Tex. As a psychology student at Davidson, where he attended on a football scholarship, he saw a video on autistic children and was hooked.

Buddy received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Davidson, a master’s from UNC Greensboro, and a Ph.D. in psychology at UCLA. He began his career treating autistic and developmentally disabled patients at Camarillo State Mental Hospital in California. He edited and contributed to books on autism and served as associate editor of many professional journals including Applied Behavioral Analysis. He worked as a staff psychologist at the Developmental Disabilities Institute in Smithtown and Stony Brook, N.Y., was director of education at The May Institute in Chatham, Mass., director of psychology and clinical services at Muscatatuck State Development Center in Indiana, and an adjunct professor at Xavier University’s psychology department from 1999 until his death. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Christine A. Hovanitz, 2219 Kyle Dr., Hebron, KY 41048; a son, Philip Newsom.

It is with profound sadness that we say farewell to our Classmate, Judith Beynon Ovard, who passed away from cancer, Monday December 8, 2008. She was an avid Sailer, Diver, Distinguished Banker, Successful Realtor and beloved Mother, Grandmother, Lady! Our thoughts and sympathies are with Jay Eichhorn & Family for the loss of his mother, who passed away on Saturday, Dec. 6 . There will be a memorial service at Seaside on Saturday, Dec 13 at 2 p.m., mostly for immediate family and friends. His mother was a wonderful person. I have known them as neighbors and friends. His mother had a stroke and then passed away.

I will go to the service. You might let our other classmates know as they may want to extend their sympathy to Jay.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2008 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at the Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

In this morning's Caller-Times, there are two articles about Mrs. Aurelia Scoggin's passing away. One is a small article on page 4-B. Obits, June 12,'08 and the other is on the next page 5-B, same date. There is a nice picture and article of her.She was the choir director at Ray when we were there. The visitation will be at Seaside Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. tonight, Thursday. June12. The funeral---"A musical Celebration of her life" will be at First United Methodist Church, Friday, June 13, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. She wasa wonderful person.She had many nice programs in which the choir sang. She was a musician, teachre, and composer. She died Tuesday, June 10, 2008. She was born in 1923 in Austin & she was the Choir Director at Ray High School for 31 years. Thank you to Joy Knaffle Harrell and Cytnhia Duran Herin for letting us know.  I  saw in the newspaper where Dorothy McCoy passed away on May 7,2008.  She was 91 years old.  There will be a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church here in CC on May 13, at 10:00a.m. There is an article in the Caller today Sunday May 11,2008 on page 12-B. Bob, who was in our class at Ray, passed away. She had another son Roy, as I remember who was a few years older than we were.  Maybe some of our classmates know where Roy is. Mrs. McCoy was my English teacher at Hamlin. I would visit with her at AAUW meetings, here in CC. She was a wonderful person.  She wrote an article in our reunion booklet about her son Bob.You might let our other classmates know. Some may have taken French from her at Hamlin or Ray.
